Show Some Love to ILF

Being able to read opens so many doors.
But in very remote Indigenous communities, books are all too scarce and literacy levels are so much lower than anywhere else in Australia.
The Commute is proud to support and celebrate the great work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
ILF was founded by Suzy Wilson, a former teacher and education consultant who owns Riverbend Books. They are a not-for-profit charity which respects the unique place of Australia’s first people and draws on the expertise of the Australian book industry. ILF’s purpose is to make a difference to the lives of Indigenous families by not only gifting thousands of new culturally appropriate books – with a focus on early literacy and first language – but also by running programs to inspire the communities to tell and publish their own stories.
We cannot thank you enough for supporting our program. We have seen firsthand the benefits increased positive experiences of early reading including conversational reading, reading with family and looking at books independently. We know that reading opens doors and the books you provide help give disadvantaged children the opportunity to do this and develop a love of literacy from the beginning.

Proud to Support Minus18

The Commute is proud to support and celebrate Minus18. Based in Melbourne, Minus18 are champions for LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia. They are changing young lives through events, education and campaigns. Leading change, building social inclusion, and advocating for an Australia where all young people are safe, empowered, and surrounded by people that support them.
Minus18‘s journey began in 1998. Nan McGregor, a mum from the organisation PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), wanted a safe space for her gay son to meet other LGBTIQ youth, so she launched Minus18 events. Thirteen years later, the Minus18 Foundation was born. Australia’s charity for LGBTIQ youth.

Since 2011, Minus18 has supported:

Youth attendees at events in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
People at school workshops and workplace training.
Youth through Minus18's Youth Volunteer Program.
Users who have accessed Minus18's free online resources.

What does Minus18 do?
